NEW HAVEN, CT – The University of Montana’s Trumaine Johnson is one of four repeat defensive players to headline the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2011 Football Championship Subdivision All-America team. The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP.
Johnson is one of three Buck Buchanan Award finalists, along with junior linebacker Matt Evans of New Hampshire and junior defensive lineman Brent Russell from Georgia Southern who were named to the defensive unit. Senior punter David Harrington of Idaho State is the fourth repeat All-American.
A 6-3, 210-pound senior cornerback from Stockton, Calif., Johnson is a not only a two-time All-American, but a three-time All-Big Sky Conference first team pick as well.

Two finalists for the Walter Payton Award - sophomore running back Shakir Bell of Indiana State and senior quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell from Eastern Washington – lead the offensive unit. Mitchell led the FCS in passing yards (4,009) and touchdowns (33) during the regular-season, and was the Big Sky’s Offensive Player of the Year completing 318-of-503 attempts (63.2 percent).
In all, players from eight different conferences and 21 institutions were represented on the 2011 Walter Camp FCS All-America team. The Big Sky had the most selections with eight players from six different schools, including three from EWU. The Southern Conference had five selections, while the Missouri Valley Conference had three. North Dakota State, which will play in the FCS Championship Game on January 7, had two All-America honorees.
Johnson was also named an first team All-American by the Associated Press and American Football Coaches Association, and was a second team pick by the Sports Network.
Senior linebacker Caleb McSurdy was named a first team All-American by the Associated Press, AFCA, and the Sports Network. A 6-1, 252-pounder from Boise, Idaho, McSurdy led the 11-3, fifth-ranked Grizzlies with 131 tackles, and was named the Big Sky’s “Player of the Year” on defense.
The Griz also had two other All-Americans in 2011, as senior offensive tackle Jon Opperud was a third team selection by AP, and senior wide receiver/returner Jabin Sambrano was a third team pick as a returner by the Sports Network.
